Catherine's Traditional Christmas Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The large audience will listen to a selection of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to budding artists backed by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been supported by the trust, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
