Prime Television Choices: 7 Must-Watch Motion Pictures This Week

Highlighted Choice

This Satirical Thriller

Director Coralie Fargeat's daring commentary addresses the demanding standards for women's appearance and the dreaded aspects of ageing. Demi Moore presents a masterful acting turn in the role of Elisabeth, a mature celebrity forced into presenting an aerobics show on television. Pushed out thanks to her deceitful superior Harvey, she undergoes a mysterious and terrifying procedure known as "The Substance". This produces a youthful duplicate named Sue, leading to an increasingly parasitic dynamic between the two. This Friday, Paramount Plus

The Woman in Cabin 10

This Agatha Christie-esque mystery features Keira Knightley in the role of Laura, a top-notch writer who opts for a break from covering world issues to embark on a high-end voyage with an ailing Norwegian shipping heiress and charitable figure, her husband, as well as other extremely wealthy passengers. Yet once a mysterious woman goes overboard during the evening and all passengers insists she wasn't real, her journalistic curiosity kick in. Streaming currently, Netflix

Presence Film

The acclaimed director challenges his directorial skills in this clever paranormal narrative captured wholly from the perspective of the phantom. When a household including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe occupies their new suburban house, the camera – AKA the Presence – follows them around. The teen shows signs of conscious of the supernatural presence, and the entity appears guarding her. Yet what is the reason? The premise is enjoyable that doesn't outstay its welcome, with a twist you might not see coming. This Saturday, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, the Sky channel

This Self-Referential Film

Nicolas Cage fully commits to his unique fame via this self-referential adventure. He acts as a narcissistic celebrity named Nicolas Cage who takes on a million-dollar gig to attend a birthday party at a Mediterranean location for the wealthy Javi Gutierrez. Recruited by government spies to spy on the potential kingpin, his “nouveau shamanic acting ability” is put to the test. October 11th, prime time, on Channel 4

The Black Phone

The director's locked-room horror holds up well even without a continuation. Located in the late 70s in Denver, a series of child abductions has made the local kids anxious. After Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and locked up in a cellar, he dreads a terrible outcome. But the old telephone on the wall keeps ringing, with spooky callers giving advice, as the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. A genuinely scary movie. Saturday 11 October, nighttime, the Film4 channel

The Tammy Faye Biopic

In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for greed in this director's brilliantly over-the-top true story regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who states early on, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals set about profiting from the people's religious faith. It's a riot of bad interior design, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, yet Chastain achieves to depict the character in a likable light. October 14th, late night, the Film4 channel

Black Bag

The current week's another release by the same director is a intelligence thriller as sharp like the turtlenecks sported by the actor's British agent. He receives a mission to discover a double agent among the team from a group of five – one of whom is his spouse. Both actors are masters of understated style, leading to a delightful mind game of fact versus fiction unfolds. The supporting cast join in the intelligent intelligence fun. This Friday, multiple time slots, the Sky channel
