The January transfer window proves to be a period of feverish rumour and potential big-money deals. A number of notable footballers find themselves linked with moves away from their current teams. Here is a look at a selection of the major figures who could be changing clubs in January.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the player available, it appears an important move is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract featuring a substantial buy-out clause active for a short window at the start of the month. Latest reports point to Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his services. Former suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to other options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute bid.

M. Guéhi

This England defender has excel for Crystal Palace this season a previous move to Anfield falling through. As his contract set to run out in the summer, this represents the club's final chance to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, such as City and several continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a winter departure remains difficult, especially given the coach's reliance on the player.

Brennan Johnson

This Welsh forward has had first-team minutes hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. Despite finishing as the club's top scorer last season, Johnson has started just a handful of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the London club would be open to a sale for the right valuation, believed to be in the region of £40 million. Bournemouth are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

R. Neves

This Portugal playmaker could be set for a return to the Premier League after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now just twenty-eight, and with his agreement expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential bargain. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the player. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spain that he would be prepared to take a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced German shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barcelona following the manager Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a winter departure looks highly likely. Aston Villa were once mentioned as a potential destination, but that move currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific England striker has kept scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of making the national World Cup. But, arranging a deal presents major hurdles. Al-Ahli do not wish to part with him, and his alleged huge weekly wages make any agreement difficult. K. Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkey forward has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this term. As his existing contract nearing its end, a host of Premier League sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are eager to secure the youngster to a new long-term contract but face a race to retain one of the continent's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Dutch midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ first team. The teenager is heavily expected to make a big-money move in January. Newcastle United reportedly are leading the chase, but could face stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
