World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51 million watchers across the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
